What to Expect

Speaker Meetings

At 10:00 am on the first Sunday of every month, we meet in One Roof’s Central Hillside Community Center at 12 East 4th Street in Duluth. The side door, which we use for our meetings, will open at about 9:30 am. There is a table at the entrance with name tags for those who attend regularly and some blank ones you can use as a visitor. You’ll see several seats, some at little tables, some coffee and snacks, a table for the presenter(s), and a projection screen. You can sign up for our e-mail list if you want to, or just grab a coffee and take any open seat. Soon enough, others will fill up nearby seats and say, “Hello.” They will not try to talk you out of your religion or ask for money; they will talk about the weather, today’s speaker, and all the things people normally talk about.

At 10:00, someone will make a few announcements, welcome a member to present a Five Minute Reflection, and introduce the day’s program – usually a speaker or a small panel discussion. After that, at about 11:00 am, there will be a question and answer session in which you’re invited to participate. There will be baskets you can use to donate a few dollars for coffee and such, but you are under no pressure to contribute. By 11:30 am, the main event will be over and some people will head home while others will gather at Pizza Luce for brunch and further discussion. It’s just a few blocks down the hill at 11 Superior Street. We each pay for our own order.

Social Dinners

At 5:30 pm on the third Wednesday of every month, a dozen or so members will gather at a restaurant in downtown Duluth. (Locations rotate, so please check the Calendar of Events to see where it is each month.) Sue Anderson hosts these events and will be delighted to welcome you there and introduce you to the others who are in attendance. This is a social event at which you can order dinner if you like, or just have some kind of beverage or dessert. Here you can expect to experience casual conservation and irreverent humor as people relax and spend some time with like-minded friends and neighbors. These events usually rap up by about 7:30 pm and we each pay for our own order.

Happy Hours

From 4:00 to 6:00 pm on the first Thursday of every month, about a dozen of us will gather at Mexico Lindo (in the Fitger’s complex at 600 East Superior Street) for light snacks, affordable drinks, and clever conversation. Parking in the Fitger’s garage is validated and a relaxed atmosphere lets everyone enjoy each other’s company. We each pay for our own order.
